Give Me A Beat!

This is one of those questions that has plagued me for a couple years:

Do you have music on your blog?

I did a test run for the past couple of weeks by having music even though on other blogs, I can't stand to have music jump out at me. I take that back...I absolutely love The Vintage Laundress' music and often find new artists by listening to her blog. But other than that, music on websites drives me cah-ray-zee. I am always listening to my own music, so having another song start up over my stuff is so very, very distracting.

But I thought for 2 weeks that I would see what it would be like to have the music playing on my blog that I am always listening to when I am online.

That little test came to an end this afternoon and I am now going to have a link to what I listen to, what I read and favorite websites...just click on the link and it will take you there.

So what is your opinion? Do you like to listen to other peoples music on their blog? Or do you want to leap through the computer screen and crush their little music player? Hypothetically, of course.

I want to crush their little music player!

I had one on my blog for a while, but I got tired of it, so it's gone now. I usually go through and mute the player if I get to a blog that has music on it myself. I will probably continue to do special music players occasionally, such as for Christmas and Halloween, for just a few days and then remove it.

I prefer that they not have music. Just my opinion.

I do not enjoy music on blogs, but I keep my speakers muted anyway unless I am purposefully listening to something online. So I didn't even know you had anything playing lately!

i love music, but not on blogs. Especially when you can't find the player to lower the volume. I know a blog is a reflection of one's tastes and life but I think inflicting your musical taste on your followers is a bit much. However I did discover a great song on your blog...Golden! And I listen to it all the time.
Thaks for bringing up the subject in a nice and subtle way. ;)

NO to music on blogs! It can be quite startling to me because it's unexpected. It's not always to my taste. And with hearing problems, it sometimes makes me want to scream! :) I'd rather choose my own. I would likely not read a blog with music.

Not a fan of music on blogs. Actually, I hate music on blogs and turn off my speakers as quickly as I can!

I hate it too. I usually have my Media Player playing MY music. So, I don't want other music yapping in the background.

I agree with everyone else -- I would prefer no music. I'm usually surfing while catching up on TV with my husband and when the music unexpectedly starts, we both jump and he gets annoyed. Plus, it makes it hard for me to read the posts.

I don't like it myself, I mute my computer unless it's something I want to hear.

I would say, 9 times out of 10 it's a "no" on the music. Simply because of the startle factor! I startle easily... not fun to have your heart skip a beat when the music starts a blaring! Also, I listen to my own music enough, it's annoying to have the two goin' on at once.

I'll keep an eye out for your playlist!

I do like the music players, I try and pick 10 good songs and change them out every month or so. I think it sets the mood for your blog! Since mine is all about summer, and 40's and 50's I like the up beat favorites everyone knows. When I go to other peoples blogs I like thier music too, live over at "The Haunted Lamp" His stuff is so cool! And when I clicked on your page a few days ago you had RENT! haha And we both love musicals so it was pretty cool!

yes crush the music player. I have the mute on but hate it when i forget and the music comes on. Sometimes I'm blogging late at night and don't want loud sounds.
Thanks for asking..

I prefer no music....especially when I am sneaking at work to check on my blogging friends---it's a dead giveaway when funky music starts blaring from the computer station I'm at!!

No music. I can't read with music on or with people talking- it has to be quite. ♥

And I thought that I was the only one who hated the music on blogs! Usually I have my speakers muted, but you can bet that if I've forgotten to mute, there'll be a screaming noise/music on something checked on the web...and it scares the bejeebers out of me. You're doing the right thing...

I used to have my music playing. But I read the same things somewhere -- that having music blare out at your was a no-no! So, I stopped it from playing automatically.

I don't mind some music on some blogs. It's nice to hear new-to-me artists.

I prefer no music. Especially when I am on my computer at home that doesn't need head phones and I can never get the volume to turn down when all of a sudden the music starts blasting. Usually when I am trying to concentrate on the horror that is A.I. this year. ;0

I prefer it if someone has a player on their blog to have it set so that IF I want to listen, I can click play, and not have it automatically start.

I'm glad you asked. I didn't want to say anything, but I was going to have to stop reading your blog! (And that's a sad thing because I love it.) I watch Netflix while I'm piddling on the computer and the music made Deadliest Catch go haywire!

Music on a blog is a NO NO!! I mostly read blogs through a feed reader, and really only ever go to the actual site for partial blog posts, to make a comment, or to check out a new blog. Since I'm usually listening to my own music, someone else's blaring out at me just upsets me. I'm less likely to end up following that blogger if there's music. It's just a bad decision.
Music players on sites are fine, just not ones that start up by themselves. I like the recommendations, but not the sudden "LISTEN TO THIS" of auto-start ones.
Just my opinion

Yay! It's unanimous! Once in a blue moon music will come on that I actually like, but usually I don't have the same musical taste and the song will get in my head and won't go away and it drives me nuts. Or my music is already playing. Ugh. I've been thinking of putting a link to the Pandora station I play at the shop, though. Just because.

Although I LOVE music...not while I'm blog hopping. If I come to a new blog with music, I usually click and get out...but if it's a blog I adore, I just turn my volume down :)

I am with Mick, I love the music people pick for their blogs. If I don't want it on, it's no problem to mute...That being said, I don't have music, cuz I get the thing set up and it won't work right.

I have to be honest and say I'm not a fan of music on blogs, I would imagine it's especially annoying for people who work in offices and want to check out their fave blogs on the sly and suddenly music blasts out!

Barbara at Oodles and Oodles said...

Not that I would ever read blogs at work, ahem, but, for the sake of argument, let's say that one time I did, and the music came blasting on unexpectedly and, well, it wasn't appreciated. All of this is hypothetical, of course.

NO music, please, is my vote. Thanks for asking.

No music please. No matter how nice the song it's always a jolt and I always have to hunt and click to turn it off. Thanx

No music, please!! I always turn it off. I really like your idea of having a link to your fave songs that way we can discover new songs/artists.
